finish a full length race without blowing the motor!?!?! Wow is it frustrating to invest 23 or 24 laps of time into a race...barely hanging on...heart in your throat trying to keep the bike upright...pushing, pushing, pushing...and then BLAM! Engine failure!! AHHHhhhhhhh! LOL!
Recently reinstalled SBK 2001 and am just continually amazed at how AWESOME this sim is! Can't wait for SBK 2007...hope and pray that it is AT LEAST the equal of 2001.
Anyway..on to the important stuff. Engine failures. Been running the Honda with max realism except for 50% extra brake, 1 click of both accel and brake help...and...maybe the culprit...auto transmission! Am using a Saitek gamepad with 2 clicks of sensitivity on both accel application and release. I have been running the default setup with hard tires in a championship season. So..a TON of laps have been run at Kyalami to date. Oh...and using the stock physics.
Now...I am so focused on trying to nail the corners and keep it upright, that I have had little time to steal a glance at the tach in the bottom left corner. At first I thought I was too aggressive getting back on the throttle out of the corners, but I don't think that is it. Trying to keep an eye on the tach now too, I see that the auto transmission has me wound out in first and second gears in most corners. No surprise the motor is not lasting as I am on the rev limiter.
Is there a way around this, or do have have to have brain surgery to get enough coordination to turn, accelerate, brake, upshift and downshift all with two thumbs and two fingers? Seems like a bit much. Have tried a few laps in manual and it was not pretty!!!!! In the slow first gear corners, the bike seems so much more likely to dump then with automatic turned on. Is this true or am I just imagining it? Somehow I feel that if I adjust the gearing and final drive ratios in the setup, the AI will be blasting out of the corners leaving me in the dust.
Any advice? I think if I spend the next year working on running in manual, I might get the hang of it...but I wanna race now!!! Not just train...LOL!
Thanks,
Bill
